The Earth's Face - Landscape And Its Relation To The Health Of The Soil
by Ehrenfried Pfeiffer

Ehrenfried Pfeiffer was a pioneer of biodynamics, first in Switzerland and then in the USA in the pre- and post-war years. This wide-ranging book reflects his concern for the different landscapes of the earth, and the effects of industrialisation and mechanisation on our environment. He studies various landscapes, including plains, mountains and woods as well as urban centres, parks and gardens, and explores what factors - natural and artificial - lead to the maintenance or loss of soil fertility. He calls on all people to take responsibility for our landscapes. His opinions and vision for the future are remarkably relevant today, sixty years on from the original publication.

Seaweed: Nature's Secret to Balancing Your Metabolism, Fighting Disease,
and Revitalizing Body and Soul

by Valerie Gennari Cooksley

What if there was a magic potion to help cure disease and lengthen life? And make you feel and look better in the process? Believe it or not, there is—and the place to find it is in the sea. Seaweed is eaten for its powerful nutritional benefits, used as a poultice for its healing properties, and soaked in for its ability to relax and moisturize even the most overworked bodies. This Fountain of Youth—whether fresh, dried, or in capsule form—is available more widely than ever before, and now readers everywhere can learn about its extraordinary qualities.

In this unique and comprehensive guide, Valerie Cooksley, R.N., explains in clear prose how to use seaweed, and why it works—in its medicinal, nutritional, and cosmetic applications. In addition, she offers fascinating information about humankind’s relationship with the sea and its mysterious underwater plants. Seaweed features recipes for delicious meals (including many for the seaweed-wary); do-it-yourself spa treatments and topical treatments for specific ills; advice on finding, storing, and using seaweed; and much more. It’s a book for anyone interested in living a healthier life.

After the "Plant Your Apples Now" event came to a close, I made a few observations...

How do you...
  1. Have a great time, using no electronics or electrical appliances.
  2. Get our kids outside and into the sun.
  3. Do something productive with wild harvested apples -- those that we grow on our farms, in our yards.
  4. Produce our own food.
  5. Produce our own entertainment.
  6. Include multi-generations, multi-faiths, economic diversities and race.
  7. Help stem climate change.
  8. Reduce carbon and traffic of food distribution.
  9. Get to know our local and outlying communities.
  10. Eat something that is really good for us emotionally, physically and spiritually.
  11. Laugh a lot.

    ... all while...

  12. Learning something new?
Have an apple festival!

Thanks again to everyone. I'm looking forward to next year's Apple Harvest!
-Leigh
